Richard J. Block, Esq. established the Law Office of Richard J. Block, P.C. in January 2008 to provide professional and personalized legal advice primarily in the area of U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Law. Mr. Block advises foreign nationals seeking to work in the U.S., foreign investors, as well as domestic and international companies seeking to hire the most talented and highly skilled individuals from around the world. He represents corporations from a broad range of industries and individuals before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Labor in connection with obtaining both temporary work visas and permanent residence status. Mr. Block also counsels clients on compliance with ever-changing employment laws regarding foreign workers, including I-9 training and audits.

Prior to forming his current firm, Mr. Block was a partner in the law firm Mirsky & Block, PLLC from 1998 to 2007 where he oversaw the firm’s entire immigration practice. From 1992 to 1997, Mr. Block was General Counsel for Nissin Foods (U.S.A.) Co., Inc., a subsidiary of Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd., a large multi-national corporation based in Osaka, Japan with worldwide operations. During his tenure with Nissin Foods, Mr. Block personally handled all immigration matters involving the transfer of Japanese nationals from the parent company to the U.S.

Mr. Block is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association (a national association of over 11,000 attorneys and law professors who practice and teach immigration law) and is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. Mr. Block also counsels clients in the areas of general corporate law, employment law and business and real estate transactions.

Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Block lived and worked in Japan for nine years and is fluent in Japanese. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the New York State University College at New Paltz and a J.D. degree from the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.

Mr. Block has been invited to speak on business and employment immigration issues by professional organizations such as the Society of Human Resources Management — Danbury Chapter, Connecticut Association of School Personnel Administrators and the Association of Corporate Counsel — New Jersey and Westchester /Connecticut chapters.

Mr. Block currently serves on the board of directors of C.U.R.E. - Community Understanding for Racial and Ethnic Equality, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote cross-cultural understanding and improve and enhance relations among different ethnic and racial groups. In June 2006, Mr. Block helped organize and presented at a CURE symposium on the subject of U.S. Immigration Policy and the High Stakes of Reform.
